1940's vintage Hector Aguilar Silver Orchid Pin Brooch

Dimensions - 3-1/2" l x 2-3/4" w x 1-1/8" d; 25.4 grams

Marks - Taxco, conjoined HA, 990 (high content silver)

Condition - excellent condition for its age; pin and clasp in good working order; nice patina

I love the hand made quality of this pin. If you look on the back side you can see the marks made during the repousse shaping of the petals.

I've seen a variety of versions of this pin; each one is slightly different depending on the goldsmith's interpretation of the master's model. This version of the pin has a very nice proportion.

Note the silver content is higher than sterling silver which is 925. They made their own alloys in those days from the Taxco silver mines.
