Spratling Silver Choluteca Conch Cross Section Pin mark

This is the larger version of the "Conch" pin produced during Spratling's first design phase. It has a very interesting construction. The top is repoussé and cut out in a spiral shape. Then the solid silver back was soldered on. The workmanship on this piece is especially fine. Spratling loved this motif, and it appears on many pieces during the his later design phases. I love the abstract quality of the pin; it is evocative of many things.
