1940's vintage Hector Aguilar Large Sterling Silver and Carved Amethyst Floral Pin Brooch

Dimensions: 4" l x 2-1/4" w; 60.3 grams

Stone Dimensions: carved flowers are 1 1/4" l x 15/16" w; round cabochons are 1/2" dia; all the amethyst pieces have inclusions

Mark: conjoined HA, Made in Mexico, Sterling stamp (1943-48)

Condition: very good for its age; the surfaces of the purple amethyst gemstones are also in very good condition; the pin and closure are in fine working condition.

Reference: Silver Masters of Mexico, p. 84 shows a large scale necklace using this same motif, and it's credited to Vidauaretta.

I believe this collector quality pin was designed by Valentin Vidaurreta for Hector Aguilar. I've never seen another pin of this design. I like the simplicity of the stalks and petals. It's more graphic and less floral than most Vidaurreta pieces.
